Temping Tips

The beauty of temping really has to be the flexibility it gives you, but how do you ensure that you get the best deal when you are temping? What insider’s tips can you put to good use, to maximise the rewards that you get from temping?

The first tip is to find yourself a good recruitment agency. It doesn’t matter if this is an online recruitment agency or one that is located in an office. What matters is that they have a wide variety of positions available and that they will listen to what your requirements are, so that you get positions that are actually suitable for you and for any specific requirements that you may have.

When you secure a position, make sure that you treat it as you would any position. If you go in with an attitude that it doesn’t matter if you work hard or not, because you are a temp, then it will not be a good experience for you or the company you are temping at. So take things seriously and try to pick up office procedures and what is expected of you as soon as possible.

Don’t assume that because you are there as a temp that you will automatically get a permanent position. This may only happen if you are a good employee and there are never any guarantees, so it is up to you to demonstrate that you are capable and efficient and then you may be offered a permanent position.

Try to be adaptable and friendly but do not immerse yourself in office politics and stay slightly reserved. That way you can be seen as someone who is discreet and quite trustworthy, rather than someone who just gossips. Again, this should help ensure that when permanent positions come up, you could be first in the queue.

Above all enjoy your time as a temp; you are effectively footloose and fancy free and so enjoy that freedom!
