Temporary Job Agencies For Office Workers

August 8th, 2009 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Temporary Jobs Help

Gone are the days when temping agencies were seen as being the small fry when it came to recruitment, with the larger, corporate agencies having the best vacancies and little temping agencies simply filling a gap in the market. Now temporary job agencies for office positions are the major part of a £ multi-million industry in the UK: they are big business!

Temping agencies now help fill the gaps that happen, often at very short notice, when staff are sick, have to go off for unexpected periods or are on maternity/paternity leave. That means that they have a really solid corner of the market and now that more and more companies are keen to ensure that they rationalise expenditure, they will take on temporary staff instead of recruiting permanent members of staff who then have all kinds of rights in terms of redundancy etc. So temporary office workers can fill the gap and be cost effective. If you are interested in temporary work, then this is good news from your point of view, since it means that there are more opportunities available than if you were looking for a permanent position.

Office workers can also use temporary positions to augment their curriculum vitae, with the temping work offering the prime opportunity to try out different types of company and perhaps trying new areas of work, such as being a receptionist or working as PA/ Secretary. Temping also boosts your CV because it shows that you are willing to settle in quickly and can adapt to different working environments: key skills that not everyone has and it is very difficult to establish at interview if people have these skills or just say that they have them. With all these reasons for finding a temporary office job, it is hard to see any real reasons not to give temping a go and the best thing is: you may even enjoy it!

Temping Job Types

April 20th, 2009 by admin | 3 Comments | Filed in Temporary Jobs Help

Do not assume that just because you are a temp, that you will be working in an office answering the phone and making the boss’s tea. No, there are literally hundreds of different types of temping jobs available. The word ‘temp’ means temporary, i.e. you will not be awarded a permanent contract, but that doesn’t mean that the work is actually menial. You can do lots of things from working in advertising, media, TV, radio, to being a specialised temp, for example, working as a Quantity Surveyor or a manager. You could even work as a surveyor, or a bricklayer, or a carer, cleaner or you could even work in accounts.

In fact the number of temporary jobs is constantly rising, since many employers are fearful that the recession means that they cannot take people on with a  permanent contract, so getting a temp in means that the job will be filled, but without the cost implications of a permanent contract.

In the ‘good old days’ temping jobs were very much seen as a second class job, but those days have gone now and many professionals like to work on a temporary basis, because they enjoy the variety, meeting new people and learning about how work is done in different ways, according to the procedures of different companies.

People often use temping jobs to meet their needs, whether they are a student, can’t decide on what to do or they are a writer or an actor who wants to make ends meet until their big break comes up.

If you don’t believe that the world of temping is as diverse and exciting as portrayed here, then just talk to any recruitment agency, who will be able to assure you and help you realise that there is a world out there waiting for you and what is available really is fantastically diverse.

Temporary Work

April 5th, 2009 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Temporary Jobs Help

There are more than 10,000 temporary employment offices around the country, and these agencies provide individual workers and services to thousands of businesses every day. With the cost of employee benefits rising dramatically in the last few years, employers have become far more interested in the temporary sector. How To Get A Job Fast

This is a great place to work for a while as youre learning a new field. Youre paid by the temporary
service and you may work at a job for one day, one week or one month or longer. It all depends on the job and the amount of work associated with it. You may be helping a company get a big mailing program done. Or you may come in to help with office duties due to extended illnesses or vacations. It may be a temporary overload situation that needs workers. Some of the temporary agencies specialise; others are more general and recruit all types of workers. You dont have to be tied down to a regular job.

You dont have the pressure normally associated with fulltime work. You can work locally or you can sign on to travel for free and earn money at the same time! If youve made up your mind to move to a new location, but dont yet have a job, the temporary agency may be the place for you to start while youre looking or working on your education. Dont overlook the value of a temporary agency.

There is Life After Temping !

December 9th, 2008 by Karen | 1 Comment | Filed in Temporary Jobs Help

Temping is a great way of trying out different types of positions, meeting lots of new people and generally testing your toes in the ocean of employment. But some people dismiss it and say that if you temp for too long it will hold your career back and you will be viewed as someone who cannot keep down a permanent position. But do not listen to this kind of old-fashioned view. You are certainly worth more than that and you should be proud of temping. After all it demonstrates that you can work in different kinds of settings, that you are flexible and that you are adaptable to change. These are very valuable skills and should not be underestimated.

Instead what you need to do is to add these skills to your CV, actively demonstrate that you are flexible, that you embrace change (many an employer would love to hear this) and that you are very adaptable.
So make sure that you adapt your CV so that it really displays the wealth of skills that you have picked up.

You should also use temping as a means of boosting your career. Try to secure positions that have a little bit more responsibility each time that you make a change and get a new temping position. Then you can use the experience to demonstrate that you are constantly acquiring new skills and putting these into use. It may also be helpful to talk this through with someone at your recruitment agency and explain your tactics, so that they can help you to secure new positions that fit your criteria.

So by using temping as a way of improving your skill set, you really can prove that there is life after temping and that it can be a rewarding process!

Temping Tips

December 7th, 2008 by Karen | 3 Comments | Filed in Temporary Jobs Help

The beauty of temping really has to be the flexibility it gives you, but how do you ensure that you get the best deal when you are temping? What insider’s tips can you put to good use, to maximise the rewards that you get from temping?

The first tip is to find yourself a good recruitment agency. It doesn’t matter if this is an online recruitment agency or one that is located in an office. What matters is that they have a wide variety of positions available and that they will listen to what your requirements are, so that you get positions that are actually suitable for you and for any specific requirements that you may have.

When you secure a position, make sure that you treat it as you would any position. If you go in with an attitude that it doesn’t matter if you work hard or not, because you are a temp, then it will not be a good experience for you or the company you are temping at. So take things seriously and try to pick up office procedures and what is expected of you as soon as possible.

Don’t assume that because you are there as a temp that you will automatically get a permanent position. This may only happen if you are a good employee and there are never any guarantees, so it is up to you to demonstrate that you are capable and efficient and then you may be offered a permanent position.

Try to be adaptable and friendly but do not immerse yourself in office politics and stay slightly reserved. That way you can be seen as someone who is discreet and quite trustworthy, rather than someone who just gossips. Again, this should help ensure that when permanent positions come up, you could be first in the queue.

Above all enjoy your time as a temp; you are effectively footloose and fancy free and so enjoy that freedom!
