There is Life After Temping !

December 9th, 2008 by Karen | Filed under Temporary Jobs Help.

Temping is a great way of trying out different types of positions, meeting lots of new people and generally testing your toes in the ocean of employment. But some people dismiss it and say that if you temp for too long it will hold your career back and you will be viewed as someone who cannot keep down a permanent position. But do not listen to this kind of old-fashioned view. You are certainly worth more than that and you should be proud of temping. After all it demonstrates that you can work in different kinds of settings, that you are flexible and that you are adaptable to change. These are very valuable skills and should not be underestimated.

Instead what you need to do is to add these skills to your CV, actively demonstrate that you are flexible, that you embrace change (many an employer would love to hear this) and that you are very adaptable.
So make sure that you adapt your CV so that it really displays the wealth of skills that you have picked up.

You should also use temping as a means of boosting your career. Try to secure positions that have a little bit more responsibility each time that you make a change and get a new temping position. Then you can use the experience to demonstrate that you are constantly acquiring new skills and putting these into use. It may also be helpful to talk this through with someone at your recruitment agency and explain your tactics, so that they can help you to secure new positions that fit your criteria.

So by using temping as a way of improving your skill set, you really can prove that there is life after temping and that it can be a rewarding process!
